Apple's Mac Book Air supports a slim and stylish design with an aluminum body. It is not meant for everyone with its high price. The Mac Book Air was definitely lighter than apples other Notebooks in weight but also in performance.

However Apple Laptop has a certain appeal that is very hard to resist. The latest offering in the Air series is the 11 and 13 inch laptops. The 11 inch notebook is very portable and will place a lighter dent in your pocket than the 13 inch notebook. However if you are looking for a bigger screen then the 13 inch notebook is for you.

Look and feel: metallic!

When we first looked at the Mac Book Air we were wowed with its slim curvy design. The unibody looks amazing and the rigid aluminum body is better than any we have seen. It is also one of the slimmest Laptops we have ever seen. The 13 inch laptop that we received looked even slimmer.

The Lid of this apple laptop is really thin and has LED Backlighting. The stylish aluminum body will never dent or loose its shine and the design is definitely unique. The bezel is also aluminum and the palm rest is not as bad as the previous models. The multi touch trackpad is better than any notebook but not meant for image editing. We found it quite responsive and accurate.

This Mac Book Airs trackpad is not as good as the Mac Book Pro. However the keypad looks the same and provides good feedback. The keys have not been backlit in the model, the ambient light sensor and the optical drive is absent.

The display has 1440x900 pixels resolution but the panel quality has come down. The contrast is not good and colors look faded. Apple has definitely cut costs here and the display is worse than any of the previous models.

This Apple Notebook has sacrificed a lot of good feature in the name of its sleek design and power saving Technology. The charger looks a little smaller than that of the Apple Macbook Pro. The charger cable looks thinner and looks better as it doesn't protrude from the side anymore.

Performance

The core 2 duo 1.86 GHz processor and NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphic solution with 256 MB RAM is good considering that this is one of the thinnest laptops. It can be used by casual gamers and in an improvement over the integrated Intel solution. However the 2 GB DDR3 RAM and Snow Leopard get an OK from us. The 256 GB SSD is a surprise; it saves space and improves reading performance. However it increased the price tag considerably.

The bootup time of 12 seconds is considerably faster than that of Mac Book Pro's 20 seconds. Apart from the display quality which was a disappointment, multiple applications can be opened and used pretty quickly on this laptop.

The file transfers and storage system is faster. However the Air doesn't offer great performance due to its low power CPU. It has GeForce 320M graphics so you can watch movies on it but it is not meant for serious gamers.The Apple Air laptop is equipped with multimedia features. However the battery life is not very good. We watched Kingdom Of Heaven, a 2 hour, 20 minute movie and found that the battery dropped by 40 per cent.While browsing the battery fell by 47 per cent. You get 4 and half hours of battery life if you just browse the net which is definitely good.

Conclusion

Apple MacBook Air 13 Price at Rs 98,900 and not meant for everyone. It supports good hardware and is very sleek and stylish. We are sure a lot of Apple Mac Book lovers will go for it. It supports 2 USB ports, a great keypad and trackpad.

But you can easily pick up a Mac Book Pro at this price, but you will loose the portability factor but gain better features. The Display is average on the Air, it has no-backlit keys or optical drive and the trackpad is jut tacky. However few other laptops can compare with its design.

If you go for the smaller 128 GB SSD it costs Rs. 79,900. A host of configurations are available and you can go over Rs 100,000 if you go for the 2.13 GHz processor with 4 GB RAM.

However, this is still lesser than the core i5 Mac Book Pro and we think that the 11 inch Mac Book Air will definitely get buyers.
