best usb wifi adapter and setup for raspberry pi

Get maximum bandwidth from wifi adapter.
I wrote this instructable because I bought an ad advertised as a rt53 70 USB WiFi adapter that meets 802.
11n, but it is difficult to run at a speed of 1 Mbps.
Image: iperf3 results for microwave operation (red)
And two LTE phones that call (blue).
Using iperf3, rt53 70 and Raspberry Pi 2 Model B, I measured the peak bandwidth 1. 69Mbps.
However, the usual maximum bandwidth is 768 Kbps, and the bandwidth usually dropskilobit speeds.
This is very frustrating.
I have collected about 100 web ideas on how to improve WiFi bandwidth.
I combined the idea of repetition, left about 30 unique improvements, and then measured each improvement multiple times in four weeks.
Almost all ideas have no statistically significant impact on WiFi bandwidth.
The important thing is (
The most important order)
: The goal of this Instructure is: I hope this is a \"live\" Instructure because more adapters will be added and measured.
For this instructable, I am using: Notes: Image: Screenshot of the app WiFi Analyzer running on the smartphone.
Make sure your wireless access point (AP)
The interference you get from your neighbors is very small.
Set up the wireless access point to make sure your AP is set up correctly.
The gateway for my ISP provider has a built-inin 802.
AP/g AP and I pay for the 18 Mbps connection.
I disabled the AP for the Gateway and added 802.
11n AP to my network. The 802.
11n AP has the following settings: 2.
4 GHz works best with Raspberry Pi.
Picture: The power adapter and Raspberry Pi pinsPower adapter the high quality power adapter of the raspberry is the basis of the RPi that works properly.
I have 5 power adapters included in the Raspberry Pi starter kit.
2 of the 5 adapters provide a consistent 5 v.
No one else.
Any device added to the Raspberry Pi uses power.
Therefore, a USB device or HDMI display can push the Raspberry Pi into the sub-
Optimal performance.
Start running as per \"Raspberry Pi below 4. 75V”[
You have to have an output power supply]“2. 4A at 5. 2V (12 watts). The extra 0.
2 v reduces the effect of voltage drop on the cable and Raspberry Pi board.
\"According to the measured voltage: suggested power adapter and Cable: Measurement: Images with 1000 intervals on each adapter: iperf3. The x-
The axis is Mbps and y-
The axis is the count of the measured values in this bandwidth.
The adapter device can be advertised as 802.
11n, but can not achieve 11n bandwidth rate on Raspberry Pi.
It is misleading to list the transmission rate of the device.
It measures the actual bandwidth.
There are multiple aspects of Wi
Fi chipset that negatively affects bandwidth.
Realtek took the lead in launching a soft modem;
Reduce Ethernet costs while uninstalling the processing from the Ethernet chipset to the host processor.
On a PC or MacBook where the CPU is often idle, this is a great feature to save money.
However, on the Raspberry Pi, uninstalling the processing to the ARM negatively affects WiFi bandwidth and application performance.
Most of my apps don\'t need high WiFi bandwidth.
Some applications that require high WiFi bandwidth are media servers, NAS and Raspberry Pi-based PC.
Some general rules: I measure more adapters when I get them.
For best performance (
Best bandwidth on top)
: The Panda device is the size of the thumb drive and may not be able to uninstall more processing from the CPU like the smaller connector.
Image: the result of running the iperf3 100 interval under minimum settings (blue)
And then use the suggested settings again (red). The x-
The axis is Mbps and y-
The axis is the count of the measured values in this bandwidth.
The difference between the minimum settings and the settings I recommend is not significant.
I choose to set a setting that is a little more complicated than the minimum setting, but this selection is not supported by the measurement (see image).
As long as you don\'t have a power issue, your gateway supports dhcp and your adapter supports drivers in raspbian, then this is the minimum setting to make wifi work: If you have a wpa_supply, network/interface.
The Conf file rename it.
Run the command: and edit to include only: CTRL-

And then use \"iface eth0 dhcp\" again \"(red). The x-

Each parameter in the/etc/network/interface file is measured.
This file must be correct or the wifi will not work.
Log in to the raspberry pi and run the command: edit the file to: CTRL-

Log in to the raspberry pi and run the command: edit the file as follows: CTRL-
O Write file input confirm write CTRL-
X exit nano editorImage: shows a drop in transmission rate when the microwave is running. testwifi.
ShOn my first Raspberry Pi project, the pi loses the connection intermittently and cannot recover.
I didn\'t know the importance of the power adapter at the time.
I wrote this script to restore wifi if there is any problem.
Log in to the Raspberry Pi and run the following command: edit the file as follows: CTRL-
O Write file input confirm write CTRL-
X exit the nano editorMake file executable: or create a crontab entry to run the script on a regular basis: and make it look like: CTRL-
Write file input confirm write CTRL-
X quit nano editoryou finished!
Picture: there is wpa_supply ant and there is no wpa_supply ant.
The basic measurement method for confusing measurement is: during the measurement process, I refreshed the microSD card five times.
The interval for most measurements is 100.
Some measures have 1000.
More intervals are required when more accurate data is needed.
For example, when comparing an adapter.
The analysis included the calculation of mean, minimum, maximum and standard deviation using the 2 sigma test, and notability.
Convert all iperf3 results to Mbps (M bit/second)
The measurement results are rounded up to 1 Mbps bins and counted.
Rounding eliminates some accuracy, but makes it easier to explain the graphical results. Both results (
There is no change)are graphed: y-
Axis = count and x-axis = Mbps.
Image: shows the bandwidth between the two MacBook pro running iperf3 through the wireless access point.
Iperf3iperf3 is a command line speed test tool for measuring bandwidth.
Measure the bandwidth between two laptops (Computer or MacBooks).
This measurement establishes a baseline for the highest achievable bandwidth on the network.
Using the iperf3 server outside the network can introduce differences in measurement, which you can\'t control.
All other measurements were made between the laptop and the Raspberry Pi.
This method isolate the changes on the Raspberry Pi that show the effect on the bandwidth.
It is expected that the bandwidth between Raspberry Pi and PC is less than that between two PCs.
Install iperf3: open the terminal window.
Download and install iperf3 on both laptops/desktops. (
I use the MacBook Pro but it works on the computer as well)
The IP address of the MacBook will act as an iperf3 server and log in to the raspberry PiInstall iperf3 on raspberry piuse perf3 for measurements: to make measurements, run the iperf3 from the Raspberry Pi to the MacBookOpen terminal window, and start the running iperf3 server: open the second terminal window, log in to the Raspberry Pi and run$ man iperf3):-
R runs perf-in reverse mode-
B n = 0 set the bandwidth to unlimited, otherwise n = bandwidth-not required-
Pause n seconds between bandwidth reportsnot required-
T 100 sets the number of intervals to 100 images: whether or not ccpcmp is the standard encryption protocol used in the WPA2 standard, which is more secure than WPA\'s WEP protocol and TKIP protocol.
There is really no choice here. Use CCMP.
Image: with or without key_admin and protomeure, with or without key_admin and proto.
Image: there is a loop back interface and there is no loop back interface.
Raspberry is used by various applications on Raspberry Pi to talk to themselves.
So I\'m not going to make that change.
